What banks does the statement import support?

Which legal notices can I send from Rentl?

How does Rentl handle the Renters' Rights Act 2026?
All notice templates are RRA 2026-compliant. Lease End is now optional on every tenancy (all tenancies are periodic under the Act). Section 21 templates record both the notice date and vacating date. Section 13 rent reviews enforce the 52-week eligibility window and the 61-day effective-date requirement. We update templates as guidance evolves — no app update needed.
Does Rentl work for blocks and HMOs?
Yes. Properties can be grouped into blocks (e.g. Maple Court, Oak Street Apartments) so you manage them as one operation. HMO licences sit alongside Gas Safety and EPC certificates in the compliance tracker, with their own expiry dates.
Do tenants need to pay anything?
No. Tenants always use Rentl for free. Your landlord subscription covers everyone in the property — no per-tenant or per-payment fees. Tenants can also upload their own documents (Right to Rent, ID, references) and see read-only Inspections shared by the landlord.
How does the compliance tracker work?
Upload a certificate with its expiry date and Rentl walks the status from VALID through WARNING (60 days out) to CRITICAL (30 days out) to EXPIRED. Push reminders fire 30 days, 7 days and on the day of expiry. Ten types are tracked: Gas Safety, EPC, EICR, Legionella, PAT, HMO Licence, Buildings & Contents Insurance, Inventory and Tenancy Agreement. Tenants can also upload their own — Right to Rent, photo ID, references and guarantor docs — visible to you when shared.
How does rent collection work?
Rent is collected by GoCardless Direct Debit, not card. You connect a GoCardless account on a paid plan via OAuth; your tenants set up their mandate from their device; rent is then pulled automatically on each tenant's chosen payment day. Successful payments auto-log as an income transaction (HMRC-tagged); failed payments are flagged the moment they happen. Both landlord and tenant can cancel the mandate at any time. Stripe is only used for your own landlord subscription — the two rails don't mix.
Is my data secure?
Yes. Card details for your subscription are handled by Stripe and Direct Debit details for rent are handled by GoCardless — neither touches our servers. HMRC submissions use the official OAuth flow — we never see your government gateway password. Documents are encrypted at rest and in transit, and we comply with UK GDPR.
Can I cancel at any time?
Yes. Cancel your landlord subscription anytime from the Stripe customer portal — no phone calls, no retention scripts. You keep paid features until the end of your billing period, then drop to the free tier with all your data intact. Account deletion is a two-step email-code confirmation, with full data export available.
Does Rentl replace my letting agent?
Rentl replaces the admin work — rent collection, maintenance, organising documents, monitoring compliance, serving notice, preparing your tax records. It doesn't find tenants or do referencing. Many of our customers self-manage; some use Rentl alongside an agent for the day-to-day.

Data retention
Active account data is held for the duration of your account. On account deletion, personal identifiers are anonymised and transaction records are retained for 7 years to meet HMRC legal obligations. Uploaded documents and photos are deleted immediately.
Your rights (UK GDPR)
You have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your data. You may also object to processing or withdraw consent where processing is consent-based. To exercise any right, contact support@rentl-app.co.uk. You have the right to lodge a complaint with the ICO (ico.org.uk).
Security
Passwords are hashed (bcrypt). HMRC tokens are stored encrypted (AES-256). All data is transmitted over HTTPS/TLS. Payment card details are handled entirely by Stripe and GoCardless — we never see or store them.
Children
The service is not directed at persons under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from minors.
Changes
Material changes will be notified in-app at least 14 days before taking effect.

1. The service
rentl is a property management tool for residential landlords and tenants in the United Kingdom. Rentl Ltd ("rentl", "we") provides access to the app subject to these terms.
2. Eligibility
You must be 18 or over and a UK resident to use rentl as a landlord. Tenants may use the app where invited by their landlord.
3. Accounts
You are responsible for keeping your credentials secure. You must provide accurate information. You may not share accounts or use rentl on behalf of another person without authority.
4. Landlord subscription
Landlord access above the free tier requires a paid subscription billed via Stripe. Subscriptions renew monthly. You may cancel at any time; access continues until the end of the billing period. We may change pricing with 30 days' notice.
5. Payments (GoCardless)
By setting up a Direct Debit mandate, tenants authorise the collection of rent amounts as agreed in their tenancy. GoCardless handles all bank-level processing under their own terms. rentl is not a payment institution.
6. HMRC submissions
The Making Tax Digital feature submits data to HMRC on your behalf when you explicitly initiate it. You remain responsible for the accuracy of submitted figures and for meeting your own tax obligations.
7. Acceptable use
You must not use rentl to: harass any person; upload unlawful content; attempt to gain unauthorised access to any system; resell or sublicence access.
8. Content you upload
You retain ownership of documents and photos you upload. You grant rentl a limited licence to store and display them solely to operate the service.
9. Liability
rentl is provided "as is". To the extent permitted by law, we exclude liability for indirect or consequential loss. Our aggregate liability is limited to the fees you paid in the 12 months preceding the claim.
10. Termination
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. You may close your account at any time via the app.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
